Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. It is typically treated with medications such as stimulants, non-stimulant medications, and/or behavioral therapy.
There is limited scientific evidence to suggest that cannabidiol (CBD), a chemical compound found in cannabis, may be useful in the treatment of ADHD. Some studies have suggested that CBD may have potential as an alternative treatment for ADHD, but more research is needed to fully understand its effects and potential benefits.
One small study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology in 2018 found that CBD may be effective in reducing the symptoms of ADHD in children and adolescents. The study involved a sample of 72 participants with an average age of 14, and found that those who received CBD experienced significant reductions in inattention and hyperactivity/impulsivity compared to those who received a placebo.
Another study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology in 2020 also found that CBD may be effective in reducing the symptoms of ADHD in adults. The study involved a sample of 30 participants with an average age of 29, and found that those who received CBD experienced significant reductions in inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity compared to those who received a placebo.
It is important to note that these studies were small and more research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits and risks of using CBD for the treatment of ADHD. Additionally, it is important to consult with a qualified healthcare provider before considering the use of CBD or any other treatment for ADHD.
