Are cannabis dispensaries in Chicago open right now?

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, cannabis dispensaries in Chicago mostly remain open at this time, but there are at least eight dispensaries that have suspended adult-use cannabis sales. Some shops, like MOCA in the Logan Square area, are taking extra measures to stay safe and limiting sales to medical patients only. Give your retail or medical shop a call before visiting to ask about their current policy and safety measures.

Curbside pickup

As of March 17, medical patients no longer need enter a shop in order to pick up their cannabis. Illinois announced that it would allow curbside ordering at all licensed dispensaries throughout the state. That means you can sit in your car while a budtender takes your order. The tweak to the law permits dispensaries to sell medical cannabis on its property or on a public walkway or curb adjacent to the dispensary. This variance will last through March 30. The guideline, notably, does not apply to adult-use dispensaries. “Our top priority is to minimize the risk of and protect as many people from exposure to COVID-19,” Toi Hutchinson, Senior Advisor for Cannabis Control to Gov. J.B. Pritzker, told KWQC. “These steps prioritize that critical objective, while also ensuring medical patients have access to the medicine they need.” Of course, it’s important to follow the CDC’s guidelines for safety during this time. You might consider going the curbside pickup route if you’re a medical patient or ordering ahead of time online.
