What should I be paying for marijuana where I live? It’s a common question across the U.S. right now. That’s especially so in states like California, where recreational cannabis recently became legal. So in order to get an in-depth look at marijuana prices by state, we surveyed dispensaries throughout the country.
Of course, what you’re going to pay depends on a lot of different factors. Sure, location is a big one. But it’s also important to consider quality, strain, competition, seasonality and recreational vs. medical.
For the purpose of this survey, medical and recreational prices are combined in order to get an overall average for a dispensary. From there, we calculate the overall average for a state based on dispensary prices in a range of cities.
Wondering where your state lands on the spectrum? We take a look at seven different states below.
Here are average marijuana prices by state:

Finding deals
Many dispensaries offer daily, weekly and monthly deals on certain quantities and strains.
In addition, remember that becoming a member at your favorite dispensary can save you some major cash on your favorite strains over the long-haul. You can save somewhere around 10% on purchases just by becoming a member.
Keep in mind that dispensaries quickly run out of the most popular strains. Give your local dispensary a call, or email, to see if they have a particular strain in stock before you make the trip.
Methodology: In order to get average prices for each area, we first survey cannabis prices at select dispensaries throughout the largest cities in a given state. Medical and recreational flower prices at each individual dispensary, including bottom and top shelf, are gathered and then averaged. From there we create an average for a city and then an overall average for a state. We cross-check our prices with individual dispensaries and other sites with cannabis prices and menus.
