If you’re wondering which recreational dispensaries in California are currently selling to the public, you’re certainly in the majority. They aren’t exactly easy to find, at least not yet. That’s because many businesses haven’t yet been able to apply for temporary licenses.
Still, temporary licenses through California’s Bureau of Cannabis Control have already gone out to a number of retailers. We’re tracking those retailers in major cities on the bureau’s list, and we’ll show you those shops below.
We’ll also give you the average price for a gram at each one of the dispensaries that’s open for adult use.
Of course, prices could rise quickly due to taxes and license fees in California this year. And remember to bring cash — most retailers won’t be taking credit cards.

The future of marijuana prices in California
Shopping around for the best marijuana prices will become even more important in California this year. That’s because recreational went legal on January 1, which is great news for the state and recreational shops. But it also means we’ll see a 15% excise tax on cannabis. And that’s in addition to local government taxes. Total taxes could jump up to 45% to 70% in some areas.
While that may push you to think about buying marijuana on the black market, we encourage you not to take that route. Black market cannabis can contain pesticides and mites that are harmful to your health. You’re better off in the long-run shopping at a dispensary that lab tests its cannabis products for pesticides and other toxins.
